About
Associate Professor, Leonardo Mota is a member of the Gases Research Group (GPG)/Laboratory of Physical Sciences at Darcy Ribeiro Northern Fluminense State University, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Graduated in Physics (2006), Master's (2009) and Ph.D. (2012) in Natural Sciences from UENF, focusing on Physics and Chemistry of Materials and Environment. He completed his doctoral internship (10/2010 to 09/2011) at the Fraunhofer Institut für Bauphysik (IBP), in the Department of Music, Acoustics and Photoacoustics, at the University of Stuttgart, Germany.

Conducts research in Physics, with an emphasis on Photothermal Science, studying thermal, optical and structural properties of materials. One of the main and continuously sustained activities of our research group has been devoted to the development, characterization and application of photoacoustic trace gas sensing devices. Currently, he has focused his efforts on trying to understand how inert molecules percolate papaya fruit layers during ripening as well as on the detection of breathing gases as human biomarkers.

Another important activity within the GPG has been the University Extension. In it, we work with low-cost sensors associated with the Arduino board as a motivating and facilitating element in the teaching of Physics for high school students from the State Education Network in the municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes.
